What Is The Difference Between Salicylic Acid and Benzoyl Peroxide – 1 Minute Definition

Salicylic Acid v.s. Benzoyl Peroxide

Both salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide are great for acne. However, they work in slightly different ways.

Salicylic acid is an exfoliator that helps to remove dead skin cells and unclog pores. It also has antibacterial properties, which means it can reduce inflammation and kill bacteria that contributes to acne.

Benzoyl peroxide is an antibacterial agent that kills the bs other microbes like staphylococcus aureus and streptococcus pyogenes. It also works as an anti-inflammatory so it can help reduce redness and swelling associated with breakouts.

Both products are available over-the-counter (OTC) at drugstores but if you have sensitive skin, have been using prescription medications recently or are pregnant or breastfeeding, speak with your doctor before using either product.
