Slugging when it comes to skincare is the act using Vaseline or a Petroleum based product as the last step of your skincare and essentially coating your entire face with it. Yes it sounds messy, yes it will get on your pillow. HOWEVER, if you want to prevent water loss and really seal in your nighttime skincare then it’s worth it.
How do you do it and when?
Slugging is typically done at night, but if you really want to you can use it during the day, just don’t plan on putting any makeup on on top of it. It is always the last step in your skincare routine because the petroleum acts as an occlusive to seal in moisture. Use a liberal amount of any petroleum based product and massage it into your skin.
Are there times I should not do it?
If you are using a retinol it is highly advised to not slug. Since I am doing skin cyling, I slug on the 2 days where I am not using actives as I mentioned in my post about that.
How soon will I see results?
I first saw results immediately the following morning. My skin was much more bouncy and bright and my makeup even lay better.
